How to see all your favorite songs in Apple Music on Mac, and turn them into a playlist
Two questions come up a lot: how to view the list of everything you favorited, and how to make a playlist out of it. The old answers talk about "loved" songs, which is the same thing under an older name (see Love or Favorite)
See the list
Music keeps a playlist called Favorite Songs (Favourite Songs with British spelling). In the sidebar it sits below Playlists, and every song you favorite goes into it (Apple's guide). Open it like any other playlist
This includes songs you favorited from radio or the catalog without adding them to your library. They appear as their own entries in Favorite Songs. We explain why in favorite or add to library
Make a playlist from favorites
Favorite Songs is already a playlist, so for a copy you can select its songs and add them to a new playlist. If you want a list that updates by itself, use a smart playlist:
- In Music on your Mac, choose File → New → Smart Playlist
- In the first pop-up menu, choose Favorite
- Add other rules if you want to narrow it, for example a genre or a year
This follows Apple's guide to smart playlists. We did not verify how the Favorite rule treats songs you only streamed and never added to the library, so check that on a few songs before you rely on it
Smart playlists live on the Mac
Smart playlists are created and edited in Music on the Mac. Other devices can play them once they sync, but not edit them
If the list looks stale
After you favorite a song, a few seconds can pass before it shows up. We wrote up why in why the star in Music updates late
